Over the past few years, Zong has been a dominant force in Chinese darts, and he solidified his status with a straight-sets victory over Wenqing Liu in the final on Sunday.
The inaugural $10,000 tournament in Xiamen featured 24 players vying for the championship and a spot in the World Championship. Zong was in formidable form throughout, winning 31 legs while only conceding seven on his path to glory.
In the group stage, the 26-year-old blitzed through Group A with convincing wins over Zishuo Wang and Yuyi Shao. He impressively came from 2-0 down against Wang to win five legs in a row, and then went on to whitewash Shao with an average of 96.
Moving on to the knockout rounds, Zong faced a tough test against Zhiwei Lin, ultimately triumphing in a deciding set. He then showcased his dominance with a six-leg winning streak to thrash Xicheng Han in straight sets in the semi-finals.
The final showdown against Liu was a highly anticipated affair, with both players eyeing a coveted spot at Alexandra Palace. However, it was Zong who stole the spotlight, dropping just one leg on his way to a resounding straight-sets victory.
With this win, Zong has secured a spot in the upcoming PDC Asian Championship in the Philippines, where he will face off against the best Asian darts players for the prestigious title over four days of action in Manila.
