Gary Anderson made a triumphant return at the Mattioli Arena, securing his third PDC ranking title of the year with an impressive display. Anderson, participating in his first event in nearly two months, showed his class by producing five ton-plus averages during the tournament.
The Scottish darts icon began his campaign with a convincing 6-2 victory over Krzysztof Ratajski. However, he faced a tough challenge in the second round against Lee Cocks, coming from behind to win after being 5-3 down.
Anderson continued his winning streak with a dominant performance against Mickey Mansell in the third round. He then displayed his top form in the last 16, defeating Mike De Decker 6-3 with an outstanding average of 109.
In the quarter-finals, Anderson faced Jonny Clayton and secured a 6-3 victory, setting up a semi-final clash with James Wade. Anderson produced a superb display, averaging 107.76 to defeat Wade 7-4 and book his place in the final.
The final showdown saw Anderson up against Scutt, who took an early lead with a clinical 120 checkout. However, Anderson responded with back-to-back 72 finishes to lead 3-2. He continued his impressive run, eventually sealing a 7-3 victory over Scutt.
Reflecting on his performance, Anderson said, “I’ve surprised myself. My second game was a struggle, but I played well against Mike [De Decker] and Wadey in the semi-finals.” Anderson’s consistency and skill throughout the tournament earned him the title and a top prize of £15,000.
