In the latest installment of the darts world, Dave Chisnall secured his second European Tour title of 2024 at the Flanders Darts Trophy. The Mattioli Arena witnessed Chisnall’s dominance as he triumphed over 128 players, doubling his Players Championship title tally for the year.
Chisnall’s performance was a sight to behold. He displayed his free-flowing best on his way to the final, with impressive averages of 108.72 and 107.19 in victories against Mervyn King and Madars Razma. Reflecting on his triumph, Chisnall remarked, “The final was a tough battle, it wasn’t a good game but I’m just happy to get over the line.” His £15,000 prize money also propelled him back to world number five status.
Confident in his abilities, Chisnall stated, “I think my game is up there with the best in the world at the moment; I’m playing really well and my confidence is high. Six months ago I was losing first and second round matches but then I started to battle and I’ve won some big titles.” Looking ahead, he added, “There are some big events coming up and I normally have a good end to the year; I just need to get my TV form going now.” Excited for the World Grand Prix, Chisnall expressed optimism, “I’ve been hitting my doubles well so it should be a good one for me.”
Chisnall’s path to victory began with comfortable wins over Callan Rydz, Dylan Slevin, and Jeffrey Sparidaans. Overcoming a 5-3 deficit, he prevailed over Razma 6-5 in the last 16. The quarter-finals saw Chisnall defeat King 6-2 before securing a 7-4 victory against Stephen Burton in the semis, setting up a final showdown with Dobey.
The final pitted Chisnall against Dobey in a scrappy contest, where both players struggled to maintain the form displayed in earlier rounds. Chisnall’s four-leg mid-match winning streak proved crucial in sealing his victory. Dobey’s own journey to the final showcased his prowess, with a 7-2 semi-final win over Martin Schindler highlighted by a remarkable nine-dart finish in the opening leg.
The darts world witnessed another thrilling competition, with Chisnall emerging as the victor. As the year progresses, fans eagerly anticipate more action-packed events and stellar performances from the top players in the game.
