In a thrilling display of darts prowess, Humphries clawed his way back from a 7-6 deficit to emerge victorious at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. This triumphant victory served as the perfect preparation for his upcoming title defense at the BoyleSports World Grand Prix next week.
The reigning world number one is set to face off against Bunting in a highly anticipated opening round clash in Leicester on Monday, and his recent win marked his third ranking title of the campaign.
“This was important for me,” declared Humphries, who had not made an appearance in a ranking final since July’s World Matchplay. “You go through spells where you’re playing fantastic darts, and then you go through spells where you can’t buy a win, and that can happen. I’m dedicated to this sport and I know I can push the levels higher and higher, but it’s important to gain a bit of confidence from somewhere.”
Looking ahead to the challenge that awaits him on the big stage at the Mattioli Arena, Humphries expressed his confidence. “When you’re on the big stage, it feels different. I feel better than ever on that big stage,” he stated. “I know I’ve got a really tough game against Stephen because he’s usually so strong on his doubles, but these are the moments I live for now. I want to play the best and be involved in these great games, and hopefully it’s a great World Grand Prix. I would love to retain it.”
Humphries showcased his skill throughout Thursday’s action, delivering impressive averages in victories over George Killington and Callum Goffin. He continued his winning streak by defeating Connor Scutt and Josh Rock en route to the quarter-finals. The young darts sensation is poised to defend his title with determination and a hunger for success.
